Florence accepts two police resignations, hires dispatcher and authorizes land purchase for new well in executive session

During a closed executive session beginning at 6:40 p.m., the Florence board accepted the resignation of dispatcher Ashten George and the resignation of Officer Antwan Gibson, both listed as effective June 15, 2026. The actions were taken on recommendation of Police Captain David Cannon and carried with recorded Aye votes from Aldermen John Banks, Brian Grantham, Mason Herrin, Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk.
Also in executive session the board voted to hire McKenzie Holbrook as a full‑time dispatcher at $16.00 per hour, starting July 2, 2026, contingent on a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing. Separately, based on a recommendation from the city attorney (transcript uses both "Bobby Lingold" and "Robert Lingold"), the board authorized and directed Mayor Trey Gunn to execute any and all documents necessary to purchase 0.74 acres from First Baptist Church of Florence, Mississippi, for construction of a new water well. Those motions recorded Aye votes from all five aldermen and were returned to regular session at 6:50 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 6:51 p.m.
