Mayor Trey Gunn opened the July 7 meeting by presenting Captain David H. Cannon with a lifetime service award in recognition of his retirement from the Florence Police Department. The board noted Cannon's retirement and the recognition drew unanimous approval from the aldermen.
Following the recognition, Alderman Brent Sistrunk moved — and Alderman Brian Grantham seconded — a motion “to establish a value of $1.00 for sidearm Model Glock 45 Serial # BKDW585 formerly issued by the city of Florence unto David H. Cannon; and that an offer by David H. Cannon to purchase the sidearm for $1.00 be implemented,” citing Section 45-9-191 of the Mississippi Code of 1972. The motion carried by a unanimous vote. The sale was recorded as an administrative action in the meeting minutes.
