Jackson council rejects request to allow petting zoo at Fall Festival

Councilman Ricky Johnson moved to approve a new business item to allow a petting zoo in the Orchard during the Butts County Fall Festival; Councilman Lewis Sims seconded. The motion failed with two in favor (Ricky Johnson, Lewis Sims) and three opposed (Councilwoman Jeanette Riley, Councilman Don Cook, Councilman Theodore Patterson).
Councilwoman Jeanette Riley told the council she was not in favor of allowing animals on city property in front of two eating establishments; Councilman Don Cook agreed. Jaqueline McKoon of the Butts County Chamber of Commerce said the idea "is not something that will make or break the festival" but had been brought forward for consideration.
