The petitioner, Barbara Turner, said she purchased the block and intends to develop a mix of single-unit homes, duplexes and small multifamily units with an affordability focus. "I'm interested in developing affordable housing for our citizens," Turner said, adding that the project aims to revitalize a block that has seen long-term vacancy.
Committee members asked technical questions about the proposed zoning maps and neighborhood-plan alignment; planning staff explained that the neighborhood plan and proposed zoning support the rezoning and infill. The committee voted on a motion to recommend the rezoning and recorded unanimous assent on the roll call.
The matter now moves to the committee of the whole and the petitioner and planning staff said they will return with more detailed plans as the zoning process continues.
