Undersheriff Evelyn Mallard told the Orange County Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee that, at the end of April, the jail headcount was 406 and the average daily population was 431, of which 159 were ICE detainees. She said the Corrections Academy class of 19 will graduate on June 6, leaving approximately 14 vacancies to be filled.
Mallard also reported financial and operational details, stating that ‘‘the boarder revenue is $3,908,000.00,’’ and that a transition to a new medical provider was completed on May 11 and has operated ‘‘with no issues.’’ When Chair Matthew Fascaldi asked about the medical-provider transition, Mallard confirmed it was complete. Committee member DeShanda T. Carter asked how long the academy runs; Mallard said it is 13 weeks for new entrants or five weeks for those with prior corrections experience.
The committee did not take a formal vote on the corrections report; Mallard’s figures and the planned academy graduation were entered into the record.
