Commission begins review of Land Use Matrix amendments; staff to research data‑center language

At the July 16 work session staff introduced ZTA‑2026‑02, a package of miscellaneous amendments to the Land Use Matrix intended to consolidate permitted and prohibited uses, clarify definitions and remove conflicting code language. Staff explained the discussion was informational and intended to identify policy issues before drafting formal ordinance language.
Commissioners and staff discussed a list of uses for future review, notably data centers (including the need to distinguish hyperscale facilities from smaller "micro" data centers), tattoo and body‑piercing parlors, vape and smoke shops, indoor shooting and archery ranges, and financial institutions. Staff noted North Logan currently lacks the water capacity for large data center operations and said additional research would precede proposed ordinance language returning to the commission.
