Legislators authorized the County Executive and Parks Department to apply for grant funding through New York State's Places for Learning, Activity, and Youth Socialization (NY PLAYS) initiative to construct playground and restroom facilities at Camp LaGuardia in Chester. The program offers a maximum grant award of $2,500,000 and requires a 20% local match ($625,000) for a total project cost of $3,125,000 if the grant is awarded.
"This request is to authorize submission of a grant application to New York State for improvements to the former Camp Laguardia site, playground and restrooms," Mr. Ewald told the committee, outlining a conceptual plan for siting the improvements. Committee members approved the authorization unanimously with staff noting the application will aim to maximize the possible award.
If successful, the grant would fund the construction of playground and restroom infrastructure; the county would need to identify or approve the 20% local match and follow state and DASNY application requirements.
