County approves $1.075 million in facility upgrades at transfer stations, corrects scale wording

Orange County legislators approved two capital projects to repair and upgrade county transfer-station facilities. Project No.64, a $650,000 bonding request, covers reconstruction and repairs at Transfer Station #1, including tipping-floor systems, exhaust fans, misting systems, overhead doors, scale-house and office roof replacement and water-treatment system work. Project No.65, a $375,000 bonding request, funds replacement and reconstruction at New Hampton and Port Jervis stations, including scale work and hopper/compactor upgrades.
During discussion Robert Gray noted a drafting error in the Project No.65 request: the paperwork referenced an "Inbound Scale" but staff said it should read "Outbound Scale." Mr. Tuohy moved to amend the language and the committee carried the amendment and the main motion. Committee members also discussed traffic flow during scale replacement and staff confirmed traffic would be managed using the remaining scale while replacements occur.
Officials described the Transfer Station #1 building as originally from 2010 with site use dating to the 1990s, and said the work is intended to remedy wear and tear and improve safety and access. Both projects were approved unanimously.
