Assessor reports return of new-home construction; 15 homes now under construction

Township Assessor John Killeen updated trustees on local property activity during the Sept. 17, 2025 meeting. He said new sales volume is down this month but prices are steady or slowly rising; he noted that 2024's higher sales volume was driven by many vacant-lot transactions and that new home construction is active again in Harvard. Killeen reported 15 new homes are under construction, six of which are duplexes, and two homes have been completed and added to the assessment rolls.
Killeen described continuing assessment activities including site visits to document new construction, review farmland requests, and verify sales. He said he performed a township visit with the Algonquin assessor on Sept. 17, 2025 for procedural networking and that an Assessors Association meeting is scheduled Oct. 6 at McHenry Township. He reminded residents that appeal season has closed and the board of review issued its final decision on the Dean property; he encouraged residents to call the assessor’s office with questions because tax bills themselves cannot be appealed to the assessor.
