Dodge County tables data center ordinance; work session set for Aug. 4 amid citizen push for zoning referendum

The Dodge County Board of Commissioners on July 20 tabled consideration of a proposed data center ordinance to allow more time for review and scheduled a work session for August 4 to discuss the measure.
Commissioner Brian Watkins moved to table the ordinance at the request of Commissioner Leigh Ann Greene; the motion passed unanimously. Manager Conner Bearden confirmed the work session will be coordinated with other pending discussions, and later in the meeting the board set the session for 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 4.
Separately, citizens asked the board to place a zoning referendum regarding solar farms and data centers on the ballot. County Attorney Ron Daniels advised against so-called 'spot zoning,' saying it is often unfavorable in court and that the county typically uses countywide ordinances rather than targeted referenda. No motion to place a referendum on the ballot was made.
