Florence board authorizes property negotiation, accepts dispatcher resignation and approves new hire

In a closed executive session May 19, the Florence board authorized Mayor Trey Gunn to negotiate with First Baptist Church to purchase property, provided an appraisal is obtained and any purchase price does not exceed the appraisal. Alderman Brian Grantham moved the measure and Alderman Kyle Martin seconded; recorded votes were unanimous.
Also in executive session and on Chief Burns' recommendation, the board accepted the resignation of dispatcher Britney Overstreet effective May 5, 2026 and directed Chief Burns to prepare a memo memorializing a conversation about the resignation for placement in Overstreet's personnel file. The board then voted to hire Hannah Everett as a full‑time dispatcher at $16.00 per hour starting May 23, 2026, with a six‑month probationary period and contingent on a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing. All executive‑session motions carried with recorded ayes from the five aldermen.
