The committee heard that the district is expanding its Teach For America fellows program and tutor model into grades 7–8. Miss Skiba, presenting the renewal and expansion, said fellows supply a large number of online tutors who work in a 2:1 student-to-tutor configuration for 45 minutes, four days a week, with the district’s math coach supervising and aligning lessons to I-Ready curriculum. “So they essentially train college students that are possibly interested in teaching,” Miss Skiba said, and the math coach conducts two online trainings and monitors tutors.
Miss Skiba said the program previously targeted grades 5–6 and produced gains on I-Ready and diagnostic measures; staff reported plans to pull students into the next proficiency band and noted the program may help recruit future teachers. Committee members had no further questions; the item will be forwarded to the full board.
