Miss Nutter, the presenter for these items, said the district contracts because there isn’t a large pool of speech-language pathologists available in the state and that several more pathologists would be needed to meet student demand: “we do need several more speech and language pathologists in order to meet the need of our students.”
Committee members asked whether the district knows the exact shortage count; Miss Nutter said Miss Sandy Jackson would have that precise number. The contracts were described as necessary to remain legally compliant with individual education programs and will be advanced to the full board for approval.
