Council authorizes president to act on vandalism after 12 trees cut at village beach

Council President Tim McCarthy moved that, if decisions or actions are needed before the next meeting, he be authorized to work with Chief Layman and Village Attorney Sara Senica and to keep the rest of the council informed through the police or office. Mike Botelho seconded the motion, and the council approved it by a 5-0 roll-call vote.
Council members instructed McCarthy to coordinate with law enforcement and village counsel on any immediate remediation, investigations or public-safety measures and to report back to the full council when appropriate. No suspects or arrests were referenced during the discussion, and the matter remains under investigation.
"[Chief Layman] talked about the sign that went up at Stop 40 asking if anyone had any information regarding the vandalism of the 12 trees that were cut down at the beach on the Village property," the council record shows.
The authorization is procedural and intended to ensure timely decisions in the absence of regularly scheduled meetings.
