Council approves Omni Systems security cameras for park and Village, capped at $8,000

The Village of Michiana Council voted unanimously on Sept. 6 to hire Omni Systems to install security cameras around the Village and park, with the contract capped at $8,000. Councilmember Tim McCarthy characterized the decision as protective of village assets following incidents of vandalism.
Tim McCarthy moved to approve the Omni Systems contract and Brian Cassidy seconded. "It is sad that we have to do this but we have a great investment in the park and hall and have had some vandalism already," McCarthy said during the discussion. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of 5–0.
Police Chief Ryan Layman will coordinate with Omni Systems and with Grand Beach authorities as appropriate; the council also discussed reviewing the related police contract at future meetings.
