Council approves one-year stewardship contract for village butterfly garden up to $5,000

Beth Denton, Territory Manager for Pizzo Stewardship, told the Village Council the final phase of the group's stewardship of the butterfly/pollinator garden is complete and presented a proposed maintenance contract for 2025.
"They finished putting down the erosion blanket and pictures were provided," Denton said, describing the recently completed site work. The proposed one-year agreement covers invasive- and non-native-vegetation control by hand-pulling and brush cutting, mowing or targeted treatment as needed, plus seed collection and dispersal. Services would run April through November and include time, travel and supplies.
On a motion by Councilmember Mike Botelho, seconded by Nancy Thill, the council approved the contract for one year not to exceed $5,000, with a roll-call vote of 5 ayes and 0 nays. Council members said they will revisit the stewardship in 2026 to determine whether to continue the program.
The contract approval was moved earlier on the agenda and recorded as a formal action. The agreement funds will come from general village accounts; no alternative funding source was specified in the discussion. The council also noted planned coordination with the Tree Board on work near the creek.
