Juneteenth parade, food‑truck festival and downtown filming set for late June in Kinston

Downtown Kinston Revitalization Director Leon Steele briefed the council on a slate of late‑June events and a downtown film shoot designed to promote the city’s commercial district. The city’s first Juneteenth parade is scheduled for Saturday, June 20 at 3:00 PM with a route from Granger Stadium to Caswell McLean; a Juneteenth Food Truck Festival will run June 20 at Southeast School Park from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Steele also announced a film crew would visit downtown on June 25 as part of a statewide Main Street to Main Street program and would capture drone footage over the Neuse River.
Steele urged merchants to tidy storefronts and promoted local eateries. He also highlighted upcoming Block and Roll concerts (June 18 and July 3) and noted a planned naturalization ceremony and community events around July 4. Mayor Pro Tem Felicia Solomon suggested compiling event listings for future agendas and the city’s Facebook page; the suggestion was well received.
