Police Chief Ryan Layman told the council there were 45 calls last month and thanked responding departments after a worker fell into a trench on Lake Shore Drive; Michigan City crews assisted and "happy to report he was not hurt."
Beach and parks updates followed: Brian Cassidy thanked families for plants and reported landings at Stops 41.5 and 40 were repaired and that water temperature measured about 60 degrees. Rick Reitz said the park received fresh mulch, the basketball court and parking areas were sealed and painted, and seasonal employee Cole will oversee park and beach operations and inspect kayak racks to ensure watercraft display new stickers.
Council also discussed exploring phone-service satellites for the beach area to improve connectivity.
