Police chief says 2017 Interceptor has multiple mechanical issues; estimates replacement at about $50,000

Police Chief Frund told trustees the department's current vehicle, a 2017 Ford Interceptor, is experiencing multiple mechanical issues and that he will obtain replacement quotes.
"The police vehicle he currently drives, a 2017 Ford Interceptor, is experiencing multiple mechanical issues, including brakes, rotors, suspension, and cooling problems," the chief reported. He estimated a replacement would cost "approximately $50,000." Trustees asked whether existing equipment could be transferred; Chief Frund said radios and cameras "may be transferable, but most other equipment likely would not be."
Chief Frund said he would research options and vendors, noting Piehl Motors of Princeton holds the state bid for police vehicles and is owned by resident Shawn Harden, who employs a qualified mechanic for police equipment installation and maintenance. The Board did not take formal action on a replacement at the Jan. 13 meeting; staff will bring quotes and options to a future meeting.
