Town manager says budget posting errors corrected; ad valorem collection at 98.93%

Fort Myers Beach's town manager reported that staff discovered multiple errors in the published FY26 budget document and in related roll-up presentations, and that the ad valorem collection rate previously discussed at Monday's meeting was inaccurate.
"Once corrected, the staff's ad valorem collection rate is 98.93%, consistent with prior years," the town manager said, attributing the earlier 86% figure to a payment that had been miscoded to the wrong function code before current staff arrived. The manager said the posted FY26 document on the town website was the wrong version and reflected figures presented at the final budget meeting rather than the millage council actually adopted; staff will correct the posted document.
Council members asked what process changes would prevent repeat errors. The town manager said staff will review and tighten the process for publishing final adopted budgets, refresh linkages between pivot tables and the master budget document, and generate regular budget-to-actual reports so reliable financial data are available throughout the year. "We take the accuracy of this budget seriously," he said.
The council did not take a vote on the matter; staff committed to provide corrected documents and to return with any additional details the council requests.
