Otsego County Representative Meg Kennedy updated the Milford Town Board on several county initiatives. She said the county Planning Department hired Levi Anderson as a new GIS (Geographic Information Systems) coordinator who will offer GIS services to towns.
Kennedy reported the county was awarded $750,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds; Otsego Rural Housing will handle distribution on a needs basis. She said Mohawk Valley Economic Development Administration and the Otsego County Planning Department will carry out community visits to discuss services and help identify grants. Kennedy also noted a study is underway to evaluate bus service options to connect rural residents to bus stops.
On local tax exemptions, a Milford resident inquired about exemptions for disabled persons; after consulting the town assessor, Kennedy said the only exemptions currently in place in Milford are STAR and Enhanced STAR; the board will consider whether other exemptions should be adopted at a future date. For questions about county tax/occupancy rules, Kennedy provided the County Treasurer's office phone: 607-547-4235.
