County representative reports 250th plans, transfer station reopening and warns of federal funding risk to services

County Representative Meg Kennedy updated the Milford Town Board on May 21 about several county initiatives and fiscal notes. Kennedy said the County Historian is working with town historians on the US 250th birthday celebration and that the county will publish a historical trails map for museums and similar organizations. She reported the county is renewing the Micro Enterprise Grant and noted that Soil & Water Conservation can assist municipalities with erosion-control needs.
Kennedy also said the Southern Transfer Station is now open while repairs continue and that sales tax receipts are currently on par with last year. She gave a calendar date for the tax-auction process — "the last day to get out of the tax auction is 10/20/2025" — and warned that reductions in federal funding could shift the cost of services to counties: the minutes transcribe a phrase as "Federal DOGE is harmful to NYS Counties," after which Kennedy and the board discussed whether county budgets would have to cover services such as DSS and Medicaid administration if federal funding were reduced or eliminated.
