Milford superintendent says town received $342,000 in CHIPS funds; town barn planning, equipment timing discussed

Milford Highway Superintendent Billy Sutphin told the Town Board on May 21 that the town received $342,000 in 2025 CHIPS (Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program) funds and is moving forward with planning for a proposed new town barn. Sutphin said he is making contacts about the barn site and asked whether he could bulldoze land the town recently purchased to create space to stockpile products for summer work; he said he would check with Town Attorney E. Hyde Clark to determine whether an environmental study is required.
Sutphin also reported operational details for the highway fleet and services: the board was told the International truck that has been on order is now projected to be finished in May 2026, and that the town’s CINTAS contract will expire in 2027, prompting him to consider ordering alternatives to the rags currently supplied. Sutphin’s request to use the newly purchased site for material stockpiling was framed as a logistical need for the coming season; he will follow up with the town attorney about permitting or environmental requirements before proceeding.
