Resident urges moratorium on short-term rentals; board to consult village

Planning Board Member Russell Langford told the board that any changes to zoning rules would need to be initiated by the Town Board. Council Member Harold Couse framed the trade-offs: short-term rentals "increase income from sales tax and also reduce the number of housing available for full time rentals and a reduction in children attending Milford Central School." The board agreed to appoint a committee (Council Members Sosnowski and Couse) to work with the Planning Board on STTR issues and Supervisor Eckler said she will check with the Village of Milford about that village's moratorium on short-term rentals.
Next steps include filing complaints as individual incidents are reported and the committee's work with the Planning Board; no moratorium or local-law change was adopted during the Oct. 16 meeting.
