Three residents told the Lanark City Council on June 16 that persistent basement water and drainage problems are affecting their homes and asked the city for help. Shawna Lott, Misty Lindstrom and Heath Burkholder said water is entering basements repeatedly; council members and Maintenance Manager Jason Alvarado discussed possible causes including properties not connected to the lift station, system capacity limits, groundwater infiltration and drainage defects.
The council agreed to retain engineering firm Fehr Graham to investigate the affected basements, determine the source of intrusion and recommend solutions. City officials asked the homeowners to grant access for inspections so the city could obtain professional documentation before taking further action.
