Deputy Administrator JR Grimes (speaker 28) explained that because the new building currently lacks a demand profile the utility required an upfront pad-mount transformer and conduit build-out. Grimes said an FPL "hard cost" estimate for the transformer and wire was about $35,000 and installation and trenching for conduit would be roughly $15,000, producing a round figure near $50,000. The board discussed whether the utility could later reimburse the county once demand materialized; Grimes said he would inquire with FPL.
On motion, commissioners approved up to $50,000 from general-fund reserves to fund the electrical work, with staff to pursue potential reimbursement or grant options as the project moves forward.
