Elkton committee reports highlight grants, donations and town projects

At the Nov. 18 meeting, committee chairs summarized department activity and grants received during 2024. Public Safety Chair Louis Heidel reported that the police department is fully staffed following a recent hire, that grants totaling $289,000 were received, and that the department used grant funds for police barricades and is partnering with EAUS on a toy drive.
Special Projects & Economic Development Chair Aaron Napotnik said the town received $204,000 in grant money in 2024 and that $35,000 of those funds are slated for new signage. Finance Chair Jan Hensley reported that over $700,000 in donations had been received by the Town (excluding in‑kind event donations), the FY24 audit has started, and the Town awaits a USDA decision on a drinking water loan. Vice‑Mayor Rick Workman noted that Commonwealth began Phase II of sewer line replacement work and Public Works Director Gaither Hurt recently received a Silver Award for the department's training program.
