The Village of Minoa Planning Board on March 12 unanimously approved a non-illuminated sign for The GoodWood, a bar and tavern at 132 N. Main Street.
Applicant Steve Perry told the board the sign would be non-illuminated and would use the existing exterior lights on a timer: "The proposed sign is a non-illuminated, and thus utilizing the lights above the proposed location which are on a timer for when the bar and restaurant open and close." Attorney Courtney Hills said the Code Enforcement Officer had confirmed the proposal complies with state and village zoning requirements and guided the board through the special-permit criteria in Village Code §160-17.3.
Board members reviewed the seven criteria in §160-17.3, including architectural compatibility, consistency with the Village Comprehensive Plan, public-safety visibility and the sign's potential impact on neighboring signage. Members agreed the proposed sign met the standards. Member John Jarmacz moved to approve the sign permit and Member Sarah Coleman seconded; the motion carried with all in favor.
The board's approval was limited to the Planning Board's advisory role under §160-17.3; Code Enforcement will now issue the sign permit in accordance with village procedures.
