Wrenshall council approves FEMA grant resubmission and $5,500 contingent obligation

The Wrenshall City Council on June 10 approved resubmitting a FEMA grant application for turnout gear and other equipment and accepted a contingent city obligation of $5,500 if the grant is awarded.
The Fire Chief reported the department had 60 runs so far this year, including 15 fire calls and 4 medical calls in May. The department learned it did not receive the Fiscal Year 2024 FEMA grant and intends to resubmit a revised application with a June 22, 2026 deadline. Councilmember Steve Studniski moved to approve resubmission and to accept the $5,500 obligation; Councilmember Kevin House seconded, and the motion carried.
Council also approved funding for individual physicals and fit testing for firefighters who missed group testing, and noted that a high school student, M. Laveau, has joined the department’s cadet program. The Fire Department is developing a written Respiratory Protection Program in response to OSHA citations, with a deadline of June 17, 2026; the city has paid the $1,080 penalty associated with those citations.
