Chief Financial Officer Rick Cunningham presented the district’s FY25 budget projections at a public hearing of the Board of Education of Jacksonville School District 117 on June 25, 2025.
Cunningham told the board that the district’s original FY25 budget shows a projected deficit of $7.0 million and that under the amended FY25 budget the district is now projecting a $790,000 deficit. "The FY 25 budgeted ending fund balance was projected to be $30.7 million. The FY amended budget ending fund balance is projected to be $39.6 million," Cunningham said. The board did not receive public testimony during the hearing.
The numbers Cunningham presented show both a sizable projected operating gap under the originally adopted FY25 plan and a much larger amended ending fund balance. The board’s roll call earlier in the evening recorded Mr. Beard, Mrs. Leonard, Mr. Lonergan, Mr. Pool, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Trace and Mrs. Wilson as present; district administration in attendance included Superintendent Steve Ptacek and Assistant Superintendent Matt Moore.
The hearing lasted only a few minutes: President Beard called the hearing to order at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned it at 6:03 p.m. The district listed www.jsdl17.org in meeting materials for public reference to documents and notices. The board did not vote or take formal action during the hearing; the CFO’s figures were presented as the informational basis for the FY25 budget discussion and any subsequent board consideration.
