Laraway board sworn in and elects officers; Knight named president

At its April 30 meeting the Laraway CCSD 70C board swore in three newly elected members and voted unanimously to elect Gary Knight president, Saul Brass vice president and Michelle Matenaer secretary. The vote to approve the slate was 7-0.
The Laraway CCSD 70C Board of Education convened its reorganizational meeting April 30 and administered oaths to newly elected members before electing officers for the new term.
Mrs. Fleet, Mr. Hopkins and Mr. Washington were administered the oath of office following the adjournment of the outgoing board and the call of the new board to order at 11:12 a.m. The minutes record the swearing-in without naming the official who administered the oath.
In the next order of business, the board moved to elect officers for the coming term. "move to elect Mr. Gary Knight as President," a motion recorded in the minutes and moved by Mr. Brass, was approved. The board also moved to elect "Mr. Saul Brass as Vice President" and to "select Mrs. Michelle Matenaer as Secretary." On a roll-call vote, Brass, Fleet, Hopkins, Knight, D Matenaer, M Matenaer and Washington voted aye; there were no nays. Motion passed 7-0.
The election formalized leadership for the district as the board prepares for the 2025–2026 school year. The minutes record the names and roles but do not include extended remarks from the newly elected officers.
