Trustees approve new radios, in-car units and a 2024 police interceptor; chief's travel and body-camera grant noted

Trustees unanimously approved purchases totaling more than $139,000 for police radios and vehicle replacement, authorized the chief's training trip to Naples, and heard that the department received a $15,000+ grant for body cameras.
The Committee approved several public-safety expenditures on June 9. Trustees voted to purchase three APX Next portable radios from Motorola Solutions at $10,981.23 each (total $32,943.69) from account 5375. They also approved six APX 6500-series in-car mobile radios at $7,637.99 each plus installation costs for a total of $48,347.94 from account 5420. Both votes passed 7-0.
Trustees also approved purchasing a white 2024 Ford Police Interceptor from Stivers Ford for $42,100 and upfitting by Stivers Midwest Pro Upfitters for $15,619.91 (total $57,719.91). The vehicle will replace Squad #5; trustees discussed that the replacement is a 2024 white model (not 2025 black), is $5,200 less than the black 2025 model, and will be used by department supervisors with the old unit repurposed for administrative use after removing light bar and graphics. Trustees asked staff to provide an estimated value of the current Squad #5.
The Committee also authorized Chief Todd Stockburger to attend the FBI National Academy Associates annual training June 28–July 1, 2025 in Naples, Florida at a total cost of $1,163. Deputy Chief Jesse Pearse reported a grant award of more than $15,000 for body cameras, the D.A.R.E. graduation on May 29, and recent community engagement events.
