Supervisor reports FEMA, NYSERDA and CREST grant progress; Arbor Day, tire recycling and day camp plans announced
Summary
Supervisor Chad Niles told the board that FEMA Category A costs have been submitted for review, NYSERDA awarded energy-audit funds for lighting upgrades, a $100,000 CREST grant will fund Cody O'Connor Park work under DASNY, and the town will host Arbor Day on April 26; plans for a joint tire recycling day and a NYSDOH summer day camp application were also reported.
Supervisor Chad Niles used the March 11 meeting to update the board on several grants, community events and operational issues.
On recovery and resilience funding, the Supervisor said the FEMA PA 4825DR-NY Procedures Cost Summary for Category A damage "has been submitted in for review and final approval." Regarding energy upgrades, he reported that "the energy audit was completed and the money was granted" under a NYSERDA grant and that the town will begin gathering estimates for lighting upgrades and installation. Niles also said a CREST grant has $100,000 appropriated and "this will fall under the DASNY" and that the funds "will be used on the Cody O’Connor park in Moira."
The board was told the town will partner with Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District for an Arbor Day tree-planting ceremony on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Church Park. The Supervisor said he is coordinating a tire recycling day with neighboring towns and Soil & Water for the summer and that National Grid's incorrect streetlight billing after the LED switchover "will be fixed on March 21st and the town will receive a reimbursement check." He also noted the town received a $3,495 incentive check on Oct. 22 and that he has started the NYSDOH application process for a 2025 summer day camp at the Brushton dam.
