Resident urges sheriff patrols as trucks speed on East Center Street

Thomas Palazzolo told the Clarkston Town Council on Aug. 5 that drivers — including landfill and tanker trucks — are travelling “a whole lot faster than 40” miles per hour on East Center Street and asked the town to arrange intermittent sheriff enforcement.
"If you can get a piece of the fine of everybody going 10 over, you could probably pay the roads in town," Palazzolo said, describing repeated near-misses and deer crossings near the creek. Mayor Thompson and council members said they would contact the sheriff’s office and review data from the town’s flashing speed signs to identify peak times for enforcement.
Council members noted the road is a state highway, limiting the town’s ability to install new signage, but said the town can request assistance and use speed-monitoring data to time enforcement. The council asked staff to follow up with the sheriff about targeted enforcement during identified shift-change periods and to report back at a future meeting.
