Coppell staff proposes contractor registration updates and a $1 million insurance minimum

Steve Schubert told the commission he consolidated registration language to make requirements easier for contractors to find and proposed inserting a $1,000,000 minimum liability insurance requirement into the city’s registration instructions so contractors need not search multiple departments for standards.
Schubert also said he added a mechanism to revoke a registrant's ability to obtain permits if a contractor repeatedly behaves abusively toward city staff. He described the measure as a "last‑ditch effort" to protect employees and said registrants would retain the right to appeal any revocation to the Building Standards Commission. Commissioners asked about guardrails for determining what triggers revocation and Schubert said appeals could be brought back to the commission for review.
