Chief counsel Laura Martin told the consolidated board that legal staffing will be reallocated following the merger of the architects/engineers and land surveyors programs.
"I will remain the chief counsel of this board," Martin said, adding that Joseph (Joey) Kennedy will continue as the program attorney handling a significant portion of litigation and program work, while Erica Cable will focus on disciplinary matters—primarily land-surveyor cases—so the workload is balanced across the team. Martin asked for patience as staff reorganizes and said she expects continuity of service.
Erica Cable described an operational proposal to let board members serve as expert reviewers for technical complaints to reduce reliance on outside contractors and speed consent‑agenda processing. Cable noted that any board member who reviews a file would be required to recuse from voting on that specific complaint.
Board members welcomed the staffing plan and flagged questions about how to maintain expertise and ensure best practices for handling technical disciplinary reviews.
The staffing and procedural changes will be summarized in the full board announcements and posted with the consolidated program materials.
