The Tennessee Real Estate Commission elected Commissioner Jeff Diaz to serve as chair and Commissioner Joan Smith as vice chair during its August 2026 meeting.
The commission opened with roll call and then accepted a motion (moved by Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Torbett) to shift an advisory-opinion item to follow approval of the minutes. Commissioners then nominated and unanimously approved Diaz for chair and Smith for vice chair. The minutes from the prior meeting were approved with eight votes in favor and one abstention (Commissioner Begley).
The leadership votes were procedural and carried without recorded opposition. The newly elected chair and vice chair will preside over the commission's bi-monthly meetings, starting with the schedule staff proposed for 2027.
