Sherry Harding, who said she serves as director and the county's FOIA officer, gave an overview of the Department of Public and Employee Relations' work over the past year, presenting web and social media metrics and staffing and program highlights. "We have 201,000 active users," she told the board, describing web traffic and the county's most-viewed pages. She said the department handled 359 FOIA requests last year and executed 158 press releases on behalf of departments and constitutional offices.
Harding outlined recruitment and retention efforts — the department reported 58 full-time hires in the last year with clusters in social services and public safety — and said two leadership-development tracks had graduated 39 employees in recent years. She described employee-facing initiatives (recognition events, flu clinics, recruitment advertising) and emergency PIO responsibilities under the Incident Command System.
Board members thanked staff for the presentation and asked staff to provide context on total county full-time equivalent positions so members could assess hiring numbers proportionally. Harding and staff offered to supply the FTE counts and additional analytics at a later date.
