Resident urges fix for snow piling that obscures sightlines at Birch and Shippee Road

Louise Workinger told the Committee of the Whole she is concerned about how the Village pushes snow near the corner of Birch and Shippee Road, saying the buildup near a stop sign “decreases visibility of Route 73” and asked that snow be pushed across Shippee Road into the ditch. President Steve Buss and staff told Workinger that pushing snow into the ditch can cause drifting back onto the roadway and creates drainage issues when snow melts.
Village staff agreed to inspect the location in person. Buss, Brian Nott and a Streets Department employee will meet with Workinger to review the site, per the board’s direction. The minutes note this matter involves sightline and drainage trade-offs rather than a change to an established clearing protocol.
