The Board reviewed Press Policy Volume 118 on a first reading during its June 12 meeting. The policy packet (Press 118) was recommended by the policy committee for adoption; the Board was presented with the content for first reading and discussion and was not asked to adopt final language that night.
Three elements the policy committee emphasized were: a new Policy 7:255 that provides supports and protections for students who are parents, expectant parents, or victims of domestic or sexual violence; revisions to Title IX language that revert to terms used in 2020; and an optional policy component that would require the District to develop guidelines for the secure and monitored use of artificial intelligence tools and to provide related professional development for staff.
Mrs. Morrissey reported the committee’s recommendation to adopt Press 118 as presented; the item was entered at first reading and will return for action at a subsequent meeting per Board policy and procedures for policy adoption.
