Residents raise concerns after new superintendent’s salary reported reduced in tentative budget

During public comment at the Oct. 8 workshop, residents criticized a reported $5,000 decrease in the salary for the new superintendent and questioned why that position would not receive the proposed 6% cost-of-living raise. Debbie Bushnoe said she believed it was unfair the new superintendent would face a pay cut. Bob Ford said he was "very upset" the new superintendent is getting a $5,000 decrease in salary and "no 6% raise," and said the individual will be doing the same work as the prior superintendent.
Supervisor Fernandez acknowledged the concerns and said the Oct. 8 meeting was the place to register them; he said bargaining or negotiation would take place at the Oct. 14 public meeting. The minutes do not include the superintendent’s name, the prior salary, or the proposed new salary figure beyond the reported $5,000 decrease and the note that the 6% raise would not apply to the new hire.
