Morehouse supervisor asks Secretary of State to search town zoning records; plans draft dangerous building law

Supervisor Anthony Fernandez told the board April 8 that he and Ed Post met with Adirondack Park Agency staff to review zoning matters and discovered limited records for Morehouse. To establish whether local zoning laws have been recorded with the state, Fernandez said he mailed a written request and $45 payment to the New York Secretary of State asking the office to search the record and to report whether a dangerous building law is on file.
"The Secretary of State's Office stated that once they received it, they would look into all the zoning laws and see what has been recorded with the State of NY," Fernandez said. He added he also discussed a dangerous building law with the town attorney, who recommended drafting a new local law even if a prior law exists so the town can make necessary changes. Fernandez said he plans to distribute a draft to the board in advance of introduction and that board members must have the law in their possession 10 days before public introduction; he may call a special public meeting to introduce two new laws.
