Morehouse to put assessor reform on November ballot; board adopts enabling local law

The Morehouse Town Board on June 10 adopted Local Law #2 of 2025, a measure abolishing the elected assessor position and establishing an appointed sole assessor that will be presented to voters on the November ballot. William Uebele moved and Brian Taylor seconded the adoption; the board recorded three ayes and two members absent.
Supervisor Anthony Fernandez told the meeting the change would be referred to voters in November and recommended that, if approved, the town contract assessor duties to Hamilton County, which already provides assessor services to two other towns in the county. The board plans to mail a letter to Morehouse voters in September inviting them to an October meeting where Fernandez will discuss the proposal further.
