Morehouse board adopts Unsafe Building Law to revive unfiled 1983 ordinance

The Morehouse Town Board on June 10 adopted Local Law #1 of 2025, reestablishing the town’s Unsafe Building Law after officials discovered an earlier version passed in 1983 had not been filed with the Secretary of State. William Uebele moved to adopt the law and Brian Taylor seconded; the motion carried with Uebele, Taylor and Supervisor Anthony Fernandez recorded as aye and two members absent.
Supervisor Fernandez told the audience the town must reintroduce and file the ordinance because the 1983 law was not filed. “This Law will take affect in 10 days from passing it, along with this Law being filed with the State,” he said. The town plans to follow usual filing procedures and proceed with enforcement steps once the law is in effect; several attendees asked questions during the public hearing but no public opposition was recorded.
