Council approves budget amendment and authorizes publication of proposed FY2027 budget hearing and tax-levy notice
Summary
Council approved a budget amendment to reallocate funds and add limited new money for inmate housing reimbursements, dispatch costs and replenishing storm-related expenditures; it also authorized publication of a public hearing on the proposed FY2027 budget and tax levies as a legal requirement.

Finance staff told the council the proposed amendment primarily moves money within the existing budget and adds limited new funding for specific needs, including paying for inmate housing (with county reimbursement), increased dispatch costs, and restoring funds spent preparing for a recent tropical storm declared under emergency authority. "A lot of it is moving money within the existing budget... the largest portion of it is we have to increase the budget to house our inmates for the cost of that where we reimburse the county," finance staff said.
Council approved the budget amendment by voice vote. Separately, council authorized publication of a notice of public hearing on the proposed FY2027 budget and proposed tax levies — a legal step finance staff said was required to provide public notice ahead of a vote on the tax levy. Council members asked for and received brief explanations of the rationale before approving both items.
