County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission that the county’s audit filings had fallen out of compliance and that a newspaper notice listed Marion, Chattahoochee and Stewart counties as non‑compliant. Weaver said staff have held a kickoff meeting to address the backlog and expect to reach compliance by the end of the year.
"We actually have a kickoff meeting on Thursday or Friday of this week trying to get everything rolling. I'm 100% confident by the end of the year that we'll be compliant with all of ours," Weaver said. He stressed the issue was widespread in Georgia and that roughly 130 cities and counties had reported similar notices; the county will continue to follow the audit schedule until the backlog is cleared.
