State clarifies behavioral-health investments will be managed by NCDHHS, not direct Roots Hub implementation

Committee members asked how behavioral health fits into the Roots Hubs work. Program staff replied that behavioral health is one of the programs six initiatives but that much of the behavioral-health funding and programmatic expansion is being implemented directly by NCDHHS in partnership with other entities rather than managed at the hub level.
"Behavioral health is actually 1 of our pillar initiatives," a program official said, and staff added that hubs will identify behavioral-health and substance-use disorder needs in their needs assessments and connect communities to statewide investments implemented by the division that oversees mental health, developmental disabilities and substance-use services. Staff listed examples of investments: community-centered behavioral-health clinic expansion, early psychosis programs and opioid treatment program expansion.
