NDOT outlines US 93, I-80 projects and a July 10 railroad crossing closure near Carlin

A Nevada Department of Transportation representative updated the Elko County RTC on current and upcoming highway and maintenance work on July 1.
The representative said NDOT has a new contract 4558 on US 93 beginning at the Long East Junction and extending about 16 miles north; the work is a mill and pave project expected to last roughly 120 days. The representative also said a project from Oasis to Pilot on I-80 is being prepared for bid as contract 4561 and that the G-58 bridge demolition over the railroad is scheduled for fall 2027.
On near-term impacts, NDOT warned of a closure for railroad crossing work south of Carlin: "That highway will be closed, between 7AM and 3PM on July 10 with no access through the railroad area," the NDOT representative said. The agency also reported completed chip seals on SR 229 and SR 225, snow-fence orders for US 93 and installation of flashing beacons near a new roundabout.
Commissioners asked about sign size and traffic counts; NDOT said sign sizing follows federal standards for the posted speed limit and that traffic-count data would need to be retrieved from NDOT resources. The update was informational only; no formal action was taken.
