Residents press Troy officials on data-center prospects; council says none pending

Multiple residents used the public-comment period on Aug. 3 to express concern that data centers could be proposed in or near Troy, to question whether the city or associated organizations had signed nondisclosure agreements, and to urge the council to consider a legislative prohibition. One resident asked the council to "consider a legislative move towards no data centers here."
Council members and the Director of Public Service and Safety responded that no data-center legislation was on the docket, that the city does not currently have suitable land in the corporate limits for large data centers, and that any such project would require annexation and planned-development zoning with environmental, traffic and permitting reviews. Officials noted that chambers of commerce or development corporations may bring opportunities forward, but council and planning processes control approvals and would include strict conditions if recommended.
