Elko County planning staff recommended vacation of unused alley right-of-way in the historic town of Midas and the commission voted to approve ROWVAC25-007 with staff recommendations.
Corey and surveyor Bob Thibault explained the request would vacate alley segments adjacent to Block 7 and Block 8 and allow the property owners to merge parcels and resolve a remnant sliver that had complicated ownership. Thibault told commissioners the alley segments being vacated are not improved and do not provide access to other parcels; if vacated, the alley would revert to adjacent property owners, with the north half reverting to the north parcel and the south half to the south parcel in the affected subdivision.
Commission discussion clarified which parcels are county-owned and which belong to Nevada Gold Mines; commissioners noted the nearby Midas cemetery and referenced prior conversations with Nevada Gold Mines about donating cemetery property. The commission approved the vacation by voice vote.
